Opt Out of CookiesDaniel SmithTalking Tottenham ERIK LAMELASome reports surfaced in late February this year that Lamela would be 'free to leave', and its unsurprising. Since Pochettino left, Lamela only made 2 Premier League starts, before, once again, being struck down by injury. With the introduction of Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura, as well as Heung Min Son, Lamela is far down the pecking order. With 2 years left on his current contract, it may be wise to cash in on Lamela now, before clubs wait for his contract to end. It is unlikely Spurs will get anywhere near the £30M they paid, most likely receiving around the £12-£20M mark. JUAN FOYTHThe Argentine defender looked promising upon arrival, however when given opportunity, he looked quite shaky and clumsy. Whilst some games he did shine, when given time in the Premier League he was frequently exploited. Earlier this month, in an interview over Instagram with TNT, he appears to be prepared for the exit: "I don’t know, we have to wait now for the transfer window to open. If I am going to have opportunities here, I will be very comfortable. And if they won’t count on me, the best thing will be to find another club." With the rise of Tanganga, and Jose possibly hinting at using Dier as a CB, Foyth falls too far down the pecking order. If the situation remains as it is, and Jose doesn't opt for him in his plans, there is no doubt we will be hearing more developments on Foyth's exit in the summer. KYLE WALKER-PETERS With Serge Aurier having his best season under Jose, as well as the possible arrival of Max Aarons, if Kyle Walker-Peters returns, he will fall down the pecking order. Showing some glimpses of quality when he was introduced into the first team, picking up a MOTM award against Newcastle, the form wasn't maintained putting in some unconvincing displays since. With Max Aarons on the radar, Walker-Peters could be used to bring some cash into the budget or included a player + cash deal with Norwich themselves. However, the more likelier option, seeing as he is already with The Saints, is a permanent move this summer down south to Southampton. The player has hinted to Sky Sports he may have to leave Spurs to pursue his goal of playing for the England senior team: "At Tottenham I had opportunities but I never really got a run and I think to establish yourself, to be considered for England, you need a run of games." Jan VertonghenSadly, after some fantastic years at Spurs, Jan Vertonghen looks set to leave Tottenham after 8 fantastic years. Winning a place in the PFA Premier League's team of the year during his first campaign, he has been a crucial part of Spurs' squad over the years, going on to form a unbreakable partnership with Toby Alderweireld, and helping Davinson Sanchez find his feet at Spurs. In the 2017/18 season, along with another place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year, the Belgian also finished the season as fan favourite, winning the One Hotspur members' Player of the Season award. With his contract set to expire on June 30, and no sign of a new offer yet, it could be a sad goodbye to Jan. With interest from Napoli and Inter Milan, and July not far off, Jan Vertonghen could be off to Serie A with Christian Eriksen, and if this does surface, the 33 year old will be remembered as a Spurs great forever. Super Jan. DANNY ROSEDanny Rose switched to Newcastle in January on loan after seeing a slip in performances and an apparent loss of attitude for the club. Scoring arguably the greatest Premier League debut goal against Arsenal, Rose has pushed through the ranks to become an established left back for Spurs, performing best with Kyle Walker on the opposite side. However with some issues behind the scenes, as well as the player speaking about the clubs hierarchy publicly, Danny lost his touch with the fans and the club, and so became apart of the January clear with Eriksen and Wanyama. His loan features an option to buy, however with the Newcastle ownership changes, it is uncertain over whether this will be taken up. With 1 year left on his Spurs contract, both parties will not want to that to be the case at the end of this Summer's window. TANGUY NDOMBELETanguy Ndombele, Spurs record signing for £54M, emerged onto the scene quickly, scoring on his debut, however as matches fizzled on, his fitness has become a real issue for Jose and other players, as he appears to just walk around on the pitch, looking like he has no intention of fighting for the result. HOWEVER, he has obvious potential, scary potential in fact, and Jose sees this, even doing little mini sessions with the player during lockdown. There is interest from giants Barcelona, but will Tottenham just let their biggest investment on a player just walk away, I think not. The best is yet to come from Tanguy, and I think he will be wearing Lilywhite next year. SERGE AURIERSerge Aurier was heavily linked with a move away last summer, but manged to start finding his feet this season under Jose, however he is still on the radar of AC Milan who failed to secure the right back last summer. The player did want to move last year for more consistent game time, but the fact Jose has granted the player exactly that in this campaign, might mean his mind has been altered, with no strong links away in recent months, Serge could be Spurs next season. THE VERDICT: Who stays? Who goes?Daniel Smith & Josh Bailey19/04/20 With rumours circulating and much speculation surrounding what players will still be at Spurs next season, as well as a range of possible incomings, Talking Tottenham picks out the best XI for next season, based on how it currently stands. After much debate, we believe to have come to agreement over who makes the cut. We recommend you read up on the Spurs transfer targets just beneath this article to make sure your up to date on all the latest transfer gossip before seeing who could be apart of this line-up! Let us know what you would change! Formation: 4231 or 433?With Josh wanting the 433 formation and myself, Daniel, opting for the 4231, we had to work around what players we thought would be available. After close consideration, and looking back on what we see Jose using next season, combined with some of our defensive needs, we opted for the 4231 formation. GOALKEEPER: Hugo LlorisHugo Lloris has made over 250 Premier League appearances for Spurs, becoming an integral member of the first team. With some developing speculation about Andre Onana joining from Ajax, there was the possibility of putting him up against Lloris for the number 1 spot, however with much demand for Onana from the likes of Barcelona and Chelsea where he would be guaranteed first team football, it just doesn't seem likely. Tottenham don't exactly lack in between the sticks too with Gazzaniga, and so Levy's attention will probably brought else where. As Lloris still looks comfortable putting on the gloves for Spurs, he takes the spot. Deserved. LEFT BACK: Ben DaviesWith little to no speculation about Spurs strengthening the left back position, there was very limited discussion on who fills this role. Ben Davies currently seems the only current option, who has performed, usually, when required to. He seems hungry for consistent first team football, and with the likely permanent departure of Danny Rose, it looks likely the Welshman will be a familiar face in the defence next season. CENTRE BACK: Toby AlderweireldWith the Belgian being arguably the best defender Spurs have seen in recent years, combined with the fact he signed a fresh contract keeping him at the lane till 2023, there was no debate over including him in the squad as he looks set to be Jose's first choice Centre back. Enough Said. CENTRE BACK: Davinson SanchezThis was the first position where uncertainty was raised. With Jan Vertonghen looking set to leave as his deal expires in June, there was questions over whether we would introduce a new face, like Ruben Dias, however the price tag makes the deal look highly unlikely. Various sources report that Dias has a 100M euro release clause, and despite being open to discussion, a sizeable fee would have to be offered to bring the Benfica defender to North London. There has also been rumours of bringing Nathan Ake to Spurs, however with the Premier league premium on his head, and being a crucial part of the Cherries squad, Levy may look to who Spurs have ready to use. This brings the discussion back to Spurs, and with Japhet Tanganga looking like a star for the future, Sanchez seems like the best current option for Spurs as he carries the most experience. Josh also pointed out that Sanchez also looks the likeliest too, as the player appears to have a great relationship with Jose, commenting recently that Jose has "always been very open and attentive". RIGHT BACK: Max AaronsThe first new face introduced into the squad. Max Aarons was a summer target for Spurs last year, and the interest appears to be revitalised this year too. The 20 year old will freshen up the defence who brings Premier League experience, youth aswell as the homegrown factor. As a bonus, Aarons can even be played on the left. Despite Aurier having his best season at Spurs this year, Tottenham still need some depth. Aarons would get the start ahead of Aurier with his signature costing around £30M currently, but could be reduced if Norwich are relegated. An exciting player. CENTRE MID: Geoffrey KondogbiaThis is where issues were raised. We came to this decision based on the problems surrounding Tanguy Ndombele. His future at Spurs looks very unsettled, with heavy interest from Spanish giants, Barcelona. As well as a fragmented mindset, the player was subject to heavy public criticism from Jose it seriously paves the question as to whether Ndombele will be here next season. We can't say, but with a poor mindset, Barcelona might be just the club to snatch him out of Spurs' hands, very likely for a fee close to what we paid. Levy may use Ndombele to inject some much needed cash into the team, and Kondogbia looks like a target, who Spurs may be able to sign for £30M. I pointed out that Kondogbia will unlock the freedom of Lo Celso to make attacking runs and balls for the front men, whilst also carrying a powerful presence in front of Toby and Sanchez. Since Dembele left, Spurs look to have been crying out for that strong presence in front of defence, and Kondogbia could be the solution. Whilst Josh would keep Ndombele in the team, he came to the conclusion that despite his potential, which we have seen glimpses of, Levy could end up selling Ndombele for a number of reasons. One being the fact club appear to have been hit hard by Covid-19, and use him for the purchase of Aarons and Kondogbia filling much needed gaps in the team, and so, we agreed that Kondogbia does indeed get a place in the team next season. CENTRE MID: Giovanni Lo CelsoArguably Spurs' player of the season, Lo Celso appears to fit right in to life at Spurs and in the Premier League. Jose even hails the Argentine "phenomenal", and uses the player to highlight why Spurs will improve next season. There we no debate here, his dazzling touches, sly through balls, well timed tackles, and powerful runs, made it easy for Gio to win over the fans, including me and Josh and the fact pen has been put to paper on a long term deal until 2025, Lo Celso looks like an integral part of Spurs' team next year. More so, if Spurs do get the likes of Geoffrey Kondogbia, Lo Celso will have more freedom to dash forward and apply pressure on opposition defence, more than he ever did this season. We expect Lo Celso to shine next year. LEFT ATTACKING MID: Heung Min SonWhat is there to say? A two-footed fan favourite forward, who has proved himself a superstar at Tottenham Hotspur. Making 151 Premier League appearances, Sonny has scored 51 goals and assisted 29 in England's top flight, also having a profound impact on Spurs' Champions League runs over the years. There really is no debate. CENTRAL ATTACKING MID: Phillipe CoutinhoIf we secure Phillipe Coutinho, surely he goes right into the first team. Coutinho will not be joining to primarily sit on the bench, and with Spurs failing to get his signature last summer, it could be they revitalise that interest this year. Various reports comment on how Coutinho would prefer a move back to the Premier League, with the Mirror adding the player is interested to work with Jose. On top of this Nicoshira reported Spurs have enquired about the player to his agent, and so if Spurs can get Coutinho, he has to go straight into the team. Whilst the Dele-lovers will not be impressed, it may inspire Dele to fight for his position, as we all know what he is capable of. The attacking injury crisis could be prevented through this signing, allowing Dele more rest, as well as adding some much needed quality into the team. Coutinho brings vast experience from, of course, England, but also Germany and Spain. Spurs will face stiff competition, however may, and just may have an upper hand courtesy of Tanguy Ndombele, as both players are valued similarly, and this may tempt Levy into a deal if he knows he can secure Coutinho as a result. Despite this, Spurs wont by shy of competition for the ex-Liverpool forward, with 4 other Premier League clubs interested, including rivals Arsenal and Chelsea. Expect to hear Coutinho's name a lot this summer, but if Spurs can lure him to N17, as Josh notes, he should be a squad changing addition in terms of the attacking quality he brings. RIGHT ATTACKING MID: Steven BergwijnStevie Wonder, Stevie Bergwijn. Spurs secured the Dutch forward in January, and I have no doubt we will see how good he is next season. With the player getting injured shortly before the Coronavirus shut down football, we managed to see glimpses of what Spurs could get on the right hand side. Scoring a belter against Manchester City on his debut, the versatile forward can even play in the middle of the front line or comfortably on the left, and holds a remarkable ability to dribble with pace at defenders, which should combine well with Lo Celso and Coutinho's ability to pick out some dazzling passes. Bergwijn isn't short of competiton either as the player should be kept right on his toes with Lucas Moura rearing to go in matches too. STRIKER: Harry KaneIt's Harry Kane, of course. LINEUP: 4231: Lloris (C), Davies, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Aarons, Kondogbia, Lo Celso, Son, Coutinho, Bergwijn, KaneBENCH: Gazzaniga, Aurier, Tanganga, Alli, Lucas, Sessegnon, Willian. The addition of Willian, looks likely over the Summer with the player having a great relationship with Jose, even recently commenting on it. Being out of contract, there is little to complain about signing the 31 year old on a free who will bring a tremendous amount of English and European experience, who isn't shy in big games, something Spurs sometimes lack. Sessegnon and Tanganga look like exciting prospects, whilst Alli and Lucas allow an injection of pace and creativity into the squad when needed.
