Tottenham gained a crucial 3 points after claiming their first win since the restart against a resilient West Ham. After a bundle of missed chances and a goal chalked off by VAR, the scoring was finally opened for Spurs in the 64th minute after a Lo Celso corner was deflected into the bottom corner of the net by West Ham’s Tomas Soucek. Soon after, Son was able to play Harry Kane through who scored an important goal for not only the rest of Spur’s season but the rest of his as well. These goals along with solid defense and limited mistakes saw Spurs cruise past their East London rivals with a score of 2-0 Player Ratings (1-10): Hugo Lloris: 6 The skipper had little to do throughout the match. However he did have to make 2 saves and an all important clearance off the head of Antonio inside the 6 yard box. Apart from this, Lloris had a relatively quiet day in the office. Ben Davies: 7 The Welsh left-back Had a very solid game in both attack and defense. Davies was a presence in both boxes and was a constant threat on the overlapping runs he made on the left wing. Part of a resolute back four, Davies certainly had his best performance of the season in an important win. Serge Aurier: 7 A vintage Serge Aurier performance with the only thing missing being a goal or an assist. Serge was ever present on the right wing during the attack and a constant pest for The Hammers in defense. Serge still needs to work on his crosses as too often they don’t find a head on the other end of it and his production takes a hit from it. Eric Dier: 8 A phenomenal performance from the England international. He truly was a rock in defense and even ventured forward to have an effort on net. His performance shows how strong he can be in our back line when he doesn’t get in his own way. Recently, mental errors have really cost him and today we saw a step in the right direction. Dier’s performance even earned the recognition of the manager who praised his efforts on the pitch and in training. Davidson Sanchez: 6 Sanchez put in a very average performance on the day. His physical presence along with Dier in the back was key in keeping out The Hammers. He was also involved in the scramble of heads that led to the Soucek own goal. Moussa Sissoko: 6 Another player who had a very average day. Sissoko played his usual role as a transition midfielder allowing play to flow from the defense towards more dangerous forward positions. We saw a few forward runs from the French midfielder which usually led to semi-decent chances, but nothing extraordinarily special. Giovanni Lo Celso: 8 Lo Celso shined on the day as he showed on multiple occasions his quality in his passing range and dribbling ability. Particularly in Son’s disallowed goal, which in the build-up, Gio dribbled around a crowd of four hammers and found an incisive pass to Son who was inches offside. Lo Celso also provided the corner which found its way into the back of the net by way of a Tomas Soucek own goal. All around very solid performance. Dele Alli: 5 Definitely not one of his best performances, Dele seemed to struggle getting into the game. It’s hard to blame him however as he was sidelined with a ban against United and hasn’t seen the pitch for more than 100 days. He was very slow in attack often killing some of our attacking threats. Again, this can most likely be attributed to a lack of match sharpness and time away from the pitch. Hopefully with more post-lockdown minutes under his belt, he can return to being an impact player for Spurs. Lucas Moura: 5 Apart from his one decent chance that was parried away by Fabianski early in the first half, Lucas really struggled to get into the game. In first half stoppage time, Lucas missed a sitter from about 15 yards out hashing it well wide. From this moment on he never found his footing in the game again often giving away possession in decent areas. His night came to an end in the 2nd half water break where a more lively Bergwijn replaced him. Heung Min-Son: 7 After having a goal disallowed in the first half, Son played the all important pass that saw Kane through 1-on-1 against a helpless Fabianski. Son was a constant threat on the left wing getting in numerous good positions and adding to the threat on the attack. He had a sneaky good game on all aspects of the pitch and was replaced late by Harry Winks. Harry Kane: 6 Scored the game clinching goal in the 82nd minute but apart from this Kane struggled to get into the game missing a good chance off the counter-attack and frequently giving the ball away with sloppy passes. Obviously still trying to get to full match readiness, Kane took a large leap forward netting his 11th and arguably most important goal of the season. Substitutes: Erik Lamela: 6 Brought in at the 59th minute for Dele Alli, Lamela brought another level of physicality and a lively body into the attack. He also played a pivotal role in dispossessing Michail Antonio in the lead up to Harry Kane’s late goal. Steven Bergwijn: 6 Brought in for Lucas during the second half water break, Bergwijn brought bundles of energy to the attack looking by far the most threatening player on the pitch during the last 20 minutes of the match. He also showed great defensive awareness by tracking back and picking up Lanzini at the back post to prevent any chance of a shot on goal. Harry Winks: N/A Came in late in the game to sure up our midfield. Did not play long enough to rate.
